by Peter Bregman
“18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done” is a great book written on self-success. Peter Bregman is the author of this book. Peter is the CEO of Bregman Partners, a global management consultancy where he is the advisor to CEOs. In this book, he works from the premise that the best way to combat constant and distracting interruptions is to create productive distractions of one’s own. Based upon a series of short bite-sized chapters, his approach allows us to safely navigate through the constant chatter of emails, text messages, phone calls, and endless meetings that prevent us from focusing our time on those things that are truly important to us.
The author does an excellent job sharing practical tips backed in current science, research and various client cases that support shifts that anyone, no matter level of level of overwhelm can use to gain focus on what counts. Best of all he brings in his own daily successes and challenges in a really human, lighter and accessible way that makes brings the point’s home and makes this an easy read. Easy reads are not always easy to implement. You will find a philosophy that works for that as well. Start with your one high impact thing. More will follow. If you read this before reading the book it will help you make sure you read the book or get through beginning parts on planning and prioritizing.
